Sunflower seeds from bird feeder growing at base of Mexican sycamore…let it grow?

Should I be concerned about sunflowers growing so close to my Mexican Sycamore tree? Will it impede the tree’s growth or health?

Our bird feeder was right above that spot and the sparrows went wild knocking the seeds out (at one point 50 were swarming the area). The seeds in the mix were “Black Oil Sunflowers.”

I moved the feeder to the other side of the tree because I really need ✨balance✨ in my life if I’m going to let a sunflower patch grow. The birds went thru another batch of seeds in about two hours so I assume some new shoots will be popping up on that side soon. But I can easily pull the shoots out if it’s not good for the tree!

Thanks for any advice fellow hill country gardeners!

Why not? Worst case, you may get weak blooms due to the shade… but when they die, they’ll fertilize the tree. These things happen in nature all the time.

Yes but I would thin them some.

Thin most of the sunflowers. That tree doesn’t look so good though…
