Pothos

Stems growing like steps?

Why do the stems look like this? Like small 1/4” -1” segments of growth. I have trimmed dead parts off over the years, but definitely not this much!!!! What is going on?

My grandma gave me this Pothos from cuttings off of hers 3 years ago. I do not have a green thumb, as much as I wish I did. I would love to improve my plant care and have tried many times (plant apps, water reminders on my phone/calendar, grow lights with timers, etc) but it has yet to stick for me.

Honestly I water when I remember. Once every two months – twice a week. My plant care could use a lot of work.

Right now it is getting a lot of sun on my balcony for the summer. The other 9 months of the year it is on a high shelf (out of my cats’ reach) 5 feet from a window.

Looks normal to me. My mini monstera and pothos plants bothe do thus and they’re doing just fine

It’s normal; as the vine grows, the older leaves will eventually yellow and die, detaching themselves from the vine. What you could do is chop the vines where they start to bald, prop them into one or two nodes cuttings, and put them back in the pot once they grow enough roots, to make the mother plant full again. The chopped vines will grow new ones, it’s not lost!

  3. The brown spots/steps are from where old leaves fell off. It’s completely normal! If you don’t like it you can clip them about 1” away from the soil and prop the cuttings and the inch you left behind should sprout a new vine or two
