This house is otherwise perfect for me and doesnt have an HOA. But two neighbors can see right into my yard. Should i back out of this deal? I havent closed yet. I’m having cold feet. Any ideas?

How many times you’re outside having seggs? If they wanna watch your bbq why not make em jelly

  2. Mindless-Divide107

Its a nice workable area. Those new style Fabric Sails or pergola would block their line of sight

  3. TBellOHAZ

Don’t let a solvable issue deter you from ‘otherwise perfect’.

Trees, potted plants, shade canopies, pergolas, string lights, etc. can all help obfuscate the area.

  4. hillbillie88

On a thread with similar concern about privacy, someone suggested a pergola with a quick growing vine to create a space that has privacy from overhead.

The cream house barely looks at the backyard. The one window is pretty high so people in that room are more likely looking up than down. And there’s probably a lot more interesting things to look at from the upstairs terrace than the sliver of the yard that they can see.

Ditto with the house on the left- they’re most likely looking out and up than down.

Also, don’t discount how boring your life probably appears to outsiders and that they’d probably not look long even if they could see you.

With all that said, the commenters are correct that you can easily remedy to situation

who cares if they can see you? lol Should be a fixable issue, but what a strange concern to me. I can see my neighbors backyards all up and down the block since we all only have 40″ tall wire fences. Apparently you’d never be able to use the backyard lol

I’ve got a pergola with motorized privacy/sun shades. You can see out and neighbors can’t see in. They’re pretty damn expensive, but between those and the trees we have pretty good privacy now.

I never knew I had a similar situation until my neighbors behind me cut down a huge tree. Been in home 13 years and a huge selling point was that no windows looked into my yard. Now I have to wear clothes. Hard to find privacy ideas that do not compromise ones view of the sunsets and night sky. I like to sleep outdoors and had to build a massive patio cover due to the loss of that tree, which made the interior of my home darker. Sooo, maybe offer the neighbors in that light house an incentive to plant a tree in their yard.

Only thing I’d really worry about is how much lower you are than the other houses for rain and possible flooding

  10. Monk0313

Depends. What are you thinking of doing back there?

  11. GrrrArrgh

Trees and/or large bushes will pretty much solve it.

  12. Donovan_Rex

Go outside naked once… they’ll learn the hard way.

  13. Back out of the deal? For an issue you clearly saw before you put an offer on the house?

  14. ThePenIslands

What’s the rainfall like there? It’s all coming toward you if it’s relevant. Put some trees there to absorb it.

  15. ladygagasnose

Trees but make sure they aren’t deciduous otherwise you’ll lose privacy half of the year.

  16. foxfirek

Trees can easily destroy that view, 2-3 years and a few hundred in trees and privacy will be yours.

  17. Creepy_Pea_5472

There is nobody looking at what your doing , Or you making porn in your backyard.

  18. Cautious_Buffalo6563

    What yard?

You could always put up some lattice panels on top of the stone wall.

  19. Future-Jicama-1933

Plant some trees along that fence and top and you will be private in no time!

  20. kennyinlosangeles

Landscaping is fixable. The lot, neighborhood, and community is not. If you’re good with the latter, and the deal works for you and your family, then buy.

That looks like someone just dumped a lot of gravel. There’s no yard there.

  22. MMoore_005

Bamboo walls. Isolate the roots so they don’t spread out of control and they grow insanely fast, insanely straight, and insanely tall.

  23. Dry_Swimming_2

I see an awesome place to plant native trees that will stave off erosion and provide habitat. As well as privacy and shade.

  24. Rare_Tea3155

Plant some trees at the back of the property

  25. shawbelt

Wax myrtles. They’ll grow fast, provide year-round privacy and are wonderful for wildlife.

  26. There are very few places where neighbors can’t see into your back yard.

If you like the house and can think of something to do with that useless back yard, then buy it and plant a hedge along the perimeter that will grow into a privacy fence. Certain cedars and evergreens immediately come to mind.

  27. InvisibleObelisk

    “Retaining walls” looks kinda wavy-gravy

  28. Geegollywtff

It’s a beautiful canvas, the possibilities are endless.

  29. BlergToDiffer

Whoever put all that loose stone in should have their head examined. Will planting trees on those upper levels affect the retaining walls?

  30. Normalcy_prevails

Looks like the desert. Try Mesquite trees.

  31. Moderatedude9

I know what you mean, I had a backyard like this and I felt like I was in a stadium. I just spent a little more on landscaping and bought some 8ft Norway Spruce trees that doubled in size in 5 years. They’re thick, evergreen, hardy, great home for wildlife, and good windbreaks. It’s a solvable problem, I wouldn’t let it stop you.

  32. Reddit_Regular_Guy

Privacy trees 🌲 would cover that in no time, just make sure and run a good watering system to water them, and your good to go

  33. jp_jellyroll

Plant more native trees / shrubs to create a natural barrier along the back fences.

Add awnings or other structures that will hide you from view. You could build a pergola with outdoor curtains or small privacy shrubs so you have privacy while you’re eating al fresco.

  34. froad4life

Depends on the price your getting and the value of the property. If it’s a good deal, then buy it. (coming from me as an investor)
I don’t like the setup. I wouldn’t buy it.(Coming form me as a home buyer)

  35. ReyonldsNumber

The right tees will help keep your terrace stable too. When you get a good rainstorm it looks like you’ll get a lot of runoff. Before you sign anything it would be worth looking into the FEMA flood zone designation as well.

  36. broccollibob

Have some nudist senior citizens spend some time out there. They’ll stop looking for sure.

  37. TommyD-613

Have you heard of perineum sunning? Neighbours will eventually learn not to look…

  38. Hot-Trick2171

This would be a great entertaining space! I would not back out of this.
