I just learned today that there is a native red species of Delphinium. D. cardinale. I’m surprised this color hasn’t been bred into garden species.

You can buy red Delphinium, they just aren’t very popular compared to Salvia and Penstemons and other columnar red perennials. Delphinium is also a PITA to growth regulate or time for the market, it gets leggy fast or sulks and won’t get tall when you want it to. I haven’t grown it so I don’t know if its beef is temp or day length, but I rarely see it in variety trials.
