Vegetable Gardening

Goodbye, squash plants and all your bugs. Better luck next year.

I just couldn’t keep up with all the vine bores. I got 3 zucchini’s this whole summer. Not worth the effort anymore. More sun for the rest of the garden!

Yep same, was basically farming squash bugs and cucumber beetles this year…

I’ll be growing on a much larger scale next year and intend to follow Farmer Jesse’s guide as closely as possible with row covering until bloom.

Last year I decided I don’t like any squash enough to deal with squash bugs.

    You’re not alone!

Last year was my first year gardening, and I didn’t have any squash bugs. This year, holy crap. Lost 3 plants to them so far.

Same, I decide next season my garden will be zucchini / squash free zone.

I’ve been using the foil method and it’s worked better than expected (wrap a 4-6″ strip of foil around the base of the stem as close to the soil as possible near the beginning of the season to deter vine borers).

My squash are still on their way out from the usual fungal diseases, but I’ve gotten a fair haul in the meantime. The few plants we didn’t put foil on got vine bored and died about a month ago.
