Fiddle Leaf Fig

Have I ruined my FLF?

My husband got me this for mother's day, so I haven't had it that long. He got it from home depot and I kept it in that pot cause I was certain I would kill it within days.

Somehow, it was thriving and growing much faster than I would have ever expected. I noticed some roots sticking out of the pot and knew it needed repotted but I also know we were moving into a new home within the month. I've read these don't really like change in environment so I wanted to wait until I moved to repot to avoid shocking it too much.

After the move I noticed some new leaf growth so I took that as a good sign and decided to repot it. During that process I noticed the stem seems brownish at the bottom. I'm unsure if this is due to root rot or if the stem is just getting woody.(if that's even a thing)

I water it maybe once a week to every other week and it lives next to this window that faces to the west. There is also the air vent, we have our ac set to 70°F. I'm also aware the pot I have is probably too short, I thought it was deeper when I ordered it.

Should I get a new pot and rinse the roots? Do I just hold off on watering and it'll be OK? I've grown sorta attached to it, I can't just let it die.

I am no experts but mine looks like yours, the stem is black for about 2”.
