Lawn Care

Does this mean war?

I’ve been lurking and studying waiting for our new build to be completed.

I’m located in the south east. They planted the sod in the middle of the summer.

Here is what I’m dealing with. It’s the entire yard, everywhere…

Any tips or tricks? Sod has been in about a month or a little more.

Things I’ve learned that I would think apply to this:

1) let the sod grown in some
2) sledgehammer ⚒️
3) maybe wait until the fall to battle?

Looking forward to the process and journey. Thank you.

I’m interested in seeing how this goes for you.

  2. This really isn’t that bad, yes you have a nut grass infestation but luckily it’s easy to kill without killing your grass. Lay down some sedgehammer and they’ll disappear in about a week. Do it quick before they spread more, and I mean like today or tomorrow.

  3. Nutgrass of all the weeds is one of the easiest to get rid of.

first off, DONT PULL IT. Pulling it really helps it spread. Found out the hard way.

The ortho nutsedge killer has worked fine for me. Make sure to get the one for your type of grass. Spray it according to temperature schedule, within about 2 days you’ll see it die off, mow and its gone.

I’ll have to do 2 or 3 applications at most to kill off anything that got seeded in the interim

Isn’t it more realistic if you practice off the fairway?

Be thankful it’s not all dallisgrass

Yah, for the red one I would go with something like a Judge or maybe a softer Wizard which should be automatic but for the yellow one, you want to go with a Buzz OS if there’s a headwind.

Pull the nut grass in a 30 foot radius and start practicing circle 1 putts

  10. You are at the perfect stage for sedgehammer. Sedgehammer comes in 2 sizes. One is a 13.55 gram packet that has a surfactant in it. This is a ready to use mix up a gallon and go to town. There is also a 1.3 oz container. This is the “pro” version and does not have a surfactant. You will need a non-ionic surfactant to go with that one to be most effective. You have a lot of sedge there so it may take more than one application, but you can get rid of this easy.
