Those look like roses, and the rosehip there is the fruit of the rose plant.

The best time to pick rosehips is in the fall, after the first frost. The frost stresses the plant, which concentrates the sugars in the fruit and makes the hips sweeter. It also breaks down the cell walls, resulting in juicier liquid when cooked. Rosehips can be picked before the frost, but they should be nice and red and then frozen to sweeten them up.

edit to add: “Yes, rose hips are berries that grow on rose bushes after the flowers bloom in June and July. They can be red, orange, dark purple, or black, and are about half an inch in size. Rose hips are best picked and eaten in late summer and autumn when they are ripe. ”

I didn’t realize but they’re technically berries even.

Roses. My mom used to make Alaskan wild rose hip ketchup.

None of those are blueberries. Join the facebook group Alaska Berry Pickers
