I’m so glad I got the garden tractor

For people who are not familiar, there are levels to riding lawn mowers. There are lawn tractors and garden tractors. And they often look very similar, but the big difference is the engine and the transaxle. Usually bigger/more powerful engines paired with transaxles that usually have thicker drive shafts, bigger gears, locking diffs meant for more heavy duty work. Usually the biggest tell is the rear wheels, bigger and with lug nuts vs a single nut holding it into place.

I’ve been using mine to help me move fencing I am re-purposing. I’ve found it easiest to just drag it behind the garden tractor to the new location. There are three panels in this picture. I don’t know how much they weigh, but the first one was a bit of a struggle for the wife and I, and we’re not weak, and I need to move 15 in total.

I’ve used it in the past to re-grade around the barn for water flow when we get flash floods.

It’s nice to know it’s meant to be able to handle the work, and I’m not pushing its limits.

When I bought my place I bought a new lawn tractor to go with it, brand and model recommended by a close friend based off of years of use & abuse of his machine… the rear end blew up after mowing my property ONCE. The whole machine was replaced by (big box store) under warranty. The second machine survived less than 10 hours before some kind of switch went bad inside of the engine, and they decided to replace the whole machine under warranty for a second time… I asked them nicely to just refund me. I bought a used GARDEN tractor for ~$1300 and it served me well for the next decade. Garden tractor over lawn tractor for the win!

I’ve got a good sized kubota to handle the big jobs these days.
