Poorly looking succulent

This used to live on a windowsill in direct sunlight and started to turn orange and crisp up. I assumed there was too much sun for it so I move it to a different window which has less direct sun. It initially picked up a bit but has since developed these dead/crispy leaves and continues to be mostly orange.

I give it water pretty much every 7-10 days in the summer and maybe once a month in the winter. Soil it well draining.

I've never repotted it since I've had it and the pot is very crowded now.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

Have you tried watering once a week? I do the same in the winter as well, you could be under watering it since some leaves look soft

It’s very normal for these plants, aloe, to drop leaves, change colors. It does look a little soggy and maybe isn’t being watered properly. I might suggest checking the roots for rot, and maybe the soil needs to be changed to a more rocky soil. The yellowing leaves could be a sign that the plant is holding onto too much water. Then I’d suggest keeping the watering down, but bottom watering so the soil has a chance to absorb the water. It hasn’t ever failed me. As long as I’m not doing it too much, it’ll repair. Good luck!

take a look at the roots to see if anything’s going on, i’m a bit stumped because 7-10 days is really often to water an indoor succulent. i’m thinking maybe your overwatering but the leaves are getting sunburn? you’ll have to cut back everything yellow and dead and propagate the still green peices if you want to save whatever is left of this plant.

I’ve tried cutting back on the watering to see if it picked up but didn’t notice any real change. The only reason I’m doing 10 days at the moment is it’s very hot at the moment so will be losing moisture quickly. I think repotting will be the next move.

Ummm if you don’t give water enough every 7-10 days, it cannot sustain all the foliage. Give it a good water now. Some of those dedicated leaves need to be carefully snipped off. Others may make it. The soil is probably exhausted so give a liquid feed. And then observe. If the leaves don’t perk up and are soggy, take them off too.
