They are like reddish brown sprouts. This seems to be as big as they get. This happens with all my carpet moss, usually just a few sprouts. This one is a lot. Can someone explain to me what they are?

Sporophytes, contains spores to reproduce moss. It’s a normal part of the moss’s life cycle. Shouldn’t affect the moss itself at all.
Once they dry out like that, if you run your finger or something across them you might be able to see the spores release! Almost looks like smoke.
