Lawn Care

Help us figure out how to grow grass!!

TLDR; had trouble growing from seed (June seeding), it’s come in extremely patchy, laid straw to help, getting mushrooms (specifically in morning), grass having most trouble growing on septic mound (gravel base so it doesn’t hold water well). Located in Ontario Canada zone 6b(?)

We had our septic replaced and weren’t able to lay seed until June. Been having trouble getting it to grow nicely. The mound specifically has trouble growing grass because it is all gravel and has a hard time retaining moisture. We are on cistern water and it’s a large yard so we can’t afford to water it constantly. We laid straw to help us try and keep moisture in the dirt but it only helped so much. In the mornings we get tons of little mushrooms growing.

Please help us figure out the easiest and cost effective way to ensure a full and consistent lawn next season!!! Do we need to till and overseed? More dirt on the mound to help seeds take? Should we sod the mound? Sod just for the mound would cost $1200. Any help is appreciated!
