Succulent Plants

How did my succulent come back to life?

So I had this cactus for about two years and I thought I over watered it because all the leaves turned brown and the plant seemed to be dead. But about a year later after just letting the plant sit, it started to grow a new one in the center! How could this happen?

It loves you. 😅 Get all that dead off there gently and see what you’ve got.

This looks like it used to be an agave.

I wouldn’t remove the dying parts until they’re crispy. The plant is most likely absorbing nutrients from the old growth.

That’s an Agave, NOT a cactus.

Have you been keeping it in full sun, or shade.
And when you watered it, did you thoroughly and deeply soak the substrate (ie. not just watering partially watering it) had you repotted it since you first got it, or was it in that pot since you had it?

I have a haworthia (zebra plant) that I keep meaning to submit to the shaming group. I got it years ago when I didn’t know about etiolation. I was so proud of it for getting so “big.” Then I kind of ignored my plants. The rest of them died, but new little clusters keep popping out on my 500 foot (slight exaggeration) long dead stem. It’s been years. The only water it gets it a little bit of spray from the sink. I know I need to take care of it, but it’s become something of a science experiment.
