Don’t listen to the “experts”

First time growing tomatoes and every step of the way passers-by at the allotment would say “oh I wouldn’t do it that way”, “you’re pruning way too many leaves”, “I wouldn’t use that many coffee grounds”, “those are the wrong marigolds” etc etc etc. and I’m so happy I just listened to my gut and said screw it. Everybody had their own way. My tomatoes are flourishing and delicious. Not bad for a first time gardener

Good job, most people’s advice is what they found to work with a specific variety. They look yummy well done !

    Marigolds? What’s that about then?

Wrong gloves mate. Yikes… Wouldn’t use them.

    Edit: You need some Marigolds.

Someone I know says whenever they prune their plants they never produce as well, whereas everything you read online says to prune. Looking at yours I’d say you’re doing a very good job.

Tomatoes look banging. So do your marigolds!

Well done! I’m a beginer too and I find it’s best to make mistakes and kearn from them, otherwise you never really know. For example you might think “catepillars are going to eat my brassicas if i dont put netting around them.” So you put netting around them and catepillars dont eat them. But how do you know if the netting was necessary? Maybe they wouldn’t have eaten them anyway.

There are so many bits of advice and info that often contradict each other, do what you think is best and learn from your mistakes, build wisdom season by season.
