Should I give my weeping ornamental a prune in any way?

I’m located in outer Melbourne. This is its third year, first after a transplant. Would you prune it in any way? I’ve never trimmed it.

I believe it’s an ornamental cherry, white blossom. It came with the house.

Excuse the mess, I’m smack bang in the middle of my winter prune and tidy. Thanks!

  1. If you want it to look neat, I would suggest pruning the lowest hanging branches back to a uniform level. Think about it like a bowl cut, taking all the lower part of the branches back to the same height.

You can also cut off any branches that are sticking up too high above the crown, but there’s only one or two I would consider cutting.
