  1. Okay so this is atypical but it allows us to process 100% of our food waste including meat, bones, dairy etc. it literally is as simple as dumping them and letting them putrify in a somewhat controlled manner. Worms underneath and the black soldier fly larvae pictured do the heavy lifting while the pile goes through anaerobic decomposition.
There have been house flies and fruit flies but nothing seems to last for long. I think the pile gasses them eventually. There are odors but they don’t extend beyond 6 feet of the pile.
I fork it occasionally to promote aerobic decomposition, and can add leaves if I need. Also add our pizza boxes (whole) and they dissolve within a few days.
I’m sure it’s not for everyone but it allows us to keep our food waste out of the landfill. I do use the material off the bottom in the garden, but if you were concerned about pathogens, the anaerobic muck is fantastic mixed with dry leaves for aerobic decomposition.

I just wanna say I’m here for the good title. And yes, we all need to learn to love the blobs!

Interesting. If you want to reduce the smell, EM-1, LAB or bokashi bran can help, at least in my experience with anaerobic composting
