Is my monstera ok?

I've just received this plant and it left me with a lot of questions you can hopefully answer. It arrived in a sort of plastic "bag" with its roots soaking in water

  1. Are the roots ok??? Too many seem to be sticking out, especially below the pot. Imo they do seem brown a little, some are squishy at the ends but are otherwise firm…

  2. Is the placement alright? I want it to get the correct amount of sunlight

In the first few pictures, I believe those are her Ariel roots. It also looks like you have more than one plant inside the pot.

They’re sticking out because they might need a bigger pot. The top leaves are getting good light so I’m assuming the roots are growing exponentially too.

Your plant looks absolutely fine (very healthy actually, maybe just a tad overwatered) it just needs a bigger pot. Don’t go too big, just two, maybe three sizes up so the roots can nicely settle again. The things you see sticking out on the first pictures are aerial roots, if you want to propagate the plant you can put a stem in the water on that root and it will grow a new root ball out of there. But in your case I would just leave it for now as your plant looks great and not overly crowded. Just a bigger pot!

Edit: btw, I personally prefer to keep my Monstera in a light place but without direct sunlight. I don’t see any damage from the sun on your plant so I assume it’s happy here, but might keep an eye on that as they don’t like to get too much direct sunlight.

There does seem to be a small amount of rot on the roots sticking out of the bottom, probably because the roots were soaking in water. I would agree with other comments saying to repot, but when you do chop those mushy roots off and it should be fine. You can also redirect that aerial root into the soil once it gets long enough.

Also, use a chunkier soil when you repot. Or buy regular soil, bark chips and perlite and mix them in. Water when the top inch of so of soil feels dry.
