Plant Propagation

When to repot?

I have two Alocasia Dragon Scale corms that have been propagating in perlite and I’m wondering when I can repot them, specifically into Lechuza Pon. The older one (left) popped its first leaf over a month ago and has a growth point, but I have yet to see any roots along the outside. The one on the right popped this leave maybe last week, but I can already see roots on that one, so I’m tempted to repot and put them in the same pot.

I’m nervous because I almost killed the mother plant transferring to pon because all the roots rotted off (I think I put it in too big a pot) and I don’t want the same to happen to these corms, but the self watering nature is up my alley and my Jacklyn loves it, so wanted to keep up with it. Any tips appreciated as I’m new to Pon ❤️

I would if they are root bound but try and only size up by 2 inches above what both of the rootballs are combined. You want them to have room to grow new healthy roots, but not too much room to where there’s to much water retention

I’d wait until there’s more roots, you may even get a new leaf in the process. I have an Alocasia melo in this state and a new leaf is currently coming through. Mines been in the same plastic container for about 2+ months now

Alocasias are dramatic when repotted. I usually wait until the last minute and then I use my own pon mixture and sometimes moss.
