Plant Propagation

Propagating White Princess

Hi all! I sort of neglected this plant, and she grew despite that. But she was very leggy and ended up falling over. I chopped her up, cutting about half off.

I’ve thrown a bunch of cuttings in water, and have slowly been seeing root growth. But some of these confuse me. Are there leaves growing and no roots?

Should I keep these going in water? Give up? Move to a different medium? Plant them and cross my fingers?

Any help is appreciated. I don’t really know what I’m doing!

  1. All of that dark portions at the bottom seem to have rotted. If it’s soft to the touch and/or smells like a fish tank, it’s rotten. The leaves may be surviving now but no roots will grow off a rotten cutting and will spread to the rest of the plant of all of it isn’t cut off.

If you have more nodes in the longer one you photographed, i’d cut the rot off and try again. Make sure to sanitize your tools and let the cutting dry out. (i like to seal the cut with a drop of superglue as of now, but it’s new so i’m not sold on it. Don’t be discouraged though, rotting is just a part of propagation. We can’t win ever time
