I’ve never seen a tree for this before

Removed a large black walnut today that had an odd break towards the top. Sadly leaving it as a very hazardous tree. So we cut that big Ole thang and get her down leaving a 28ft pole to buck up for the mill.

Well mid cut we hear a popping sound and less then a second later the tree quarters itself! On all 28ft! Has this happened to anyone before? I figure there was some sort of built up internal tension that created the break in the first place

Nice, already started splitting itself for turning into bow staves lol

We call that pre-quarter sawn, lol 🤯

  3. I think you may have cut down the Giving Tree…it’s just trying to help you out the best it can, right up until the end

Already did half the work to give you some choice quarter sawn lumber. I’d call a local mill if you have one and ask if they’d buy it from you.
