Landscaping

Any ideas or advice?

Im sorry if this doesnt go in this subreddit.

I’ve lived all my life (23 years) in the same house and I’ve never seen the garden (and its big) in a good or even decent condition. The two squares we had of grass are now just dirt and mud and the rest is VERY overgrown and not taken care of. 4 years ago my father (who was supposed to take care of the garden but did nothing) left my house because of my parents separation. And me and my mother have been unable to keep up with the garden care as we don’t know nothing about it, my mother is older now and I don’t have that much time. But now, finally we started the home makeover and want to also change the garden to something good looking and that doesnt require THAT MUCH knowledge or time. Something simple. I can’t take rn full pictures of it, but we have a back porch also and more garden space in the back. This is the condition of the garden after us raking all the dead plants and things that fall from the trees. But it is too much work for us two. Every day we end up with like 7 bags full of what we rake. The garden also has random bricks all over it. There is a BIG pile of sticks and branches from when my father pruned some bushes and trees BEFORE I WAS BORN that he neglected and just left there.

We initially want to keep the front part with grass and some sitting area and the back more decorative and with space to park our cars, as we will have a closed porch in the back for seating. But we want to add flowers and stuff everywhere.
We are already looking for someone to come and clean and prepare the terrain for everything.

Any idea or advice on how to do anything is a lot of help already. Thank you so much!

  1. For starters, I’d have that tree leaning excessively removed before it falls on your house and causes significant damage. Looks like the your pavers are below grade so you may have runoff issues. If so, you could put double stack of landscaping timbers along the edge, backfill and regrade towards your fences/street. After that, you could seed for a lawn this Fall though you may need to augment the soil. None of this has a high pricetag except the tree removal. Hard to know what “THAT MUCH knowledge or time” means to you, but everything I note here is novice level except the tree removal. On a side note, I’d look at this from the perspective of improving property value over time as it sounds like a sale may be approaching the horizon. Curb appeal can be dramatically improved here in a few years for a relatively small investment of time and money.
