Just discovered these eggs in my backyard this morning. I accidentally scared the duck away when I was walking outside. She’ll come back, right ?

She should come back when safe.

I had a duck lay eggs next to my garage and she got scared away when the garage door was caught by the wind and slammed shut one day. She came back a few hours later. She’d leave a couple times a day presumably to feed too but always came back. Ended up with 8 baby ducks about a month later, the coolest thing ever since I live in a city.

We have the dumbest little birds but I can’t remember what they’re called – they put their nests in the worst spots. They’ve been using our planters because we have trees and lots of cover in them. They always come back and they’re seriously stupid birds so I believe the ducks will be fine.

Birds have a strong instinct to care for their offspring. If the eggs and habitat around the nest are left intact, she’ll be back.

Nope, you ruined it! No hope now, just eat the eggs and move on…😉

Yep she’ll come back. She’s probably either gathering food, hanging back for a while hoping nobody notices the nest without a big duck near it, or both. Sometimes they leave for quite a while. The thing to remember is that birds like ducks are pretty used to laying their eggs in close proximity to people at this point in their evolutionary history, so you might’ve spooked her but it’s temporary

I had a duck and 8 ducklings on my condo patio. Fed them cracked corn and set the top of a bird bath on the ground so they could paddle around.

Eight ducklings eventually ended up being three, and then they left/disappeared. I wasn’t home enough to notice if the mom left for very long, but she did come and go a bit.

They were making a giant poopy mess on my patio, so I was relieved when they were finished living with me. But it was entertaining during the pandemic.

Birds tend to try to draw perceived threats away from their nest when they feel it’s threatened and then return don’t they?
