Tomatoes

This basket of tomatoes is so pretty…but I don’t know what they are!

Sold to me as a plant, as Alice’s Dream. Clearly that’s not it, as those are yellow. I asked the grower and he said maybe it’s Cherokee Purple or Black Krim since he was growing them, but I don’t think it’s either as I have both of those. Any ideas?

I thought they were a Cherokee variant as soon as I saw the picture, then I read your statement. They look very similar to a Cherokee variant my father grew a few years back. I say variant because I don’t remember if they were Cherokee Purple, but I remember the Cherokee part of the name.

    It could be Blue Beauty.

Varieties with anthocyanin in the skin are super popular right now, so lots of new ones that look quite similar have been popping up from different breeders. Wild Boar Farms has a ton of them.

Editing to add: OP, you are correct, these are definitely not Cherokee Purple or Black Krim! Nor any other classic heirloom. Those varieties have dark pinkish color and green shoulders. Purple and blue (anthocyanin) on the shoulders marks this as a relatively new variety. I think Indigo Rose was the first one, a little more than 10 years ago.

I saw someone else posting about growing Alice’s Dream seeds from Baker Creek and they came out looking exactly like this. I don’t believe BC carries anything that looks like this though, either an accidental cross pollination or a mixup from one of their growers.

I disagree with the Cherokee purple assessments in the thread. Cherokees are not so streaky or two-toned in my experience.

Blue Beauty is a good guess. Lovely Lush could be another candidate.

I am currently growing Cherokee Purples and they are not streaked like this.
