Is this normal?

When I bought my palm, it was sliver, it still is in some spots. She happens to to be a more white and and thick in some areas. I wasn't sure if that's from sun exposure, or it is from storing water. I just want to make sure my guys is okay. I'm planning on repotting soon in the same pot just a little higher up with more soil. I water about once a week, or when leaves look like they aren't as happy. I'm in Indianapolis so zone 5-6. It usually gets outside light.

Looks fine, you will be able to tell the growth difference from the seasons. If you keep it active during the winter, typically those spines tends to be a bit smaller and bark a bit darker. If you let it go completely dormant, they don’t have these usually. I let mine grow in the winter, it’s about 5 ft tall now, as it ages the differences get much less noticeable then when it’s young.
