Giant Swallowtail Larvae


Well, the grackles had already abused the half dozen lemons on this tree so I’m going to let these little buggers grow up.
Pretty cool looking at this stage bite they can do serious damage if unchecked.

    Thanks for hosting them! I fertilize my Meyer lemon every couple of weeks to keep it growing to host these dudes. I also transferred a caterpillar to a net enclosure to pupate, when it slowed down and started crawling to the side of the lemon tree pot. Felt better keeping it safe from predators, since we’ve had other butterfly chrysalises stolen (likely by birds or the a-hole rat in my backyard).

    The butterflies are absolutely GORGEOUS.

    Camouflaged as bird poo! I went to spray one off of my meyer leaves until I saw it moving 🙂
