Composting

i know they are good, but they are also a little gross lol

I have so many BSL in one of my compost bins!! I usually keep it covered with a black trash bag, and whenever i go open it to throw in more food waste, this is what i see. As soon as I remove the bag, they start squirming trying to dig themselves in. I can literally see the whole top just moving and i can hear the squishiness!!!! It used to give me the heebie-jeebies (still does a bit lol!), but I appreciate their hard work of eating whatever i throw in there (which isn’t anything “bad” since i’m vegan). They are incredibly fast at eating, I threw a half rotten cantaloupe in there a few days ago, and it is 100% gone.

PS: there’s a lot of tomatoes there bc we have 10+ volunteer cherry tomato plants and can’t get through all of them fast enough! Also, i typically do bury the food, but was lazy yesterday when i dump the tomatoes.

Let them enjoy their time of eating before they become adults and lose the ability to eat :`(

The sound is what gets me. I’m a bug lover, but the squishing sound is kinda gross

I felt the same way at first. Now they don’t bother me an all and I’m actually happy to see them. Funny how you can get sensitized or desensitized to things.
