Plant Propagation

How to restart this propagated rhaphidophora tetrasperma?

I have this 2-3 year old propagated rhaphidophora tetrasperma. It was well propagated when I first got it from a friend with a 10 inch high stem, multiple split leaves & lots of root. But I left it in a dark corner & let it spiral & grow onto itself, just changing the water & picking off dying leaves…

Is this fixable? 😭 Can I cut it back to have it regrow in an intentionally directed vine? Why are some parts of the stem thin while others are thick? I’m also wondering if I can slowly add sphagum moss to the water to transition it to a soil medium? Do I need to cut away some roots?
