Is it true that plants when they have a lot of space available for root growth they focus on that? I doubt it but several people believe that

    Well, if the space for roots isnt limited (like in field grown), then the roots will grow in a normal amount, producing a normally high amount of hormones and gathering a normally high amount of nutritions. This causes the upper parts of the plant to grow at a normally high rate.

    If you limit the root-space, by growing the plant in a pot, than the roots cant grow with their normal rate. Doing so also breaks the growth of the upper parts of the plant.

    A good example for this are bonsais.
