Grafting Plants

Community help needed! What do you think I should do with this Pereskiopsis, which I’ve just let grow by the side of a window, but which now has reached a certain threshold? Both serious and creative answers are welcome.

  1. Wooohaaaa, what a plant haha.

Cut them on winter time, will be better for all 🙂

I have a pot full of pere cuttings that grew. They’re under a shaded area and I rarely fertilize and water them. They maintain a certain height and I just cut and grow stock for grafting if I need some.

Maybe you can do that too

  3. FlayeFlare

i remove very top part of my pere when it reaches certain height.
you can force it branch like a tree. it will more likely try to continue it’s legacy from a very top areola. so keep sniping those and keep those that grow from lower areolas

  4. Leave it be as long as you can and try to let it flower. Dont know if its enough light but I’ve only seen one post with one flowering

  5. I water prop mine. If I were you I’d get 10-20 cuts outta that guy to prop and stab graft a cactus seedling to the stump. My seedlings grow 3-4x faster when grafted to pere. Why not start an army!

Now cut it into 7” sections and have an army in a couple weeks!! They you’ll be grafting like crazy

    (I have a ton of seedling 😉🤫)

Well, my vote goes to cutting it down 3-5 inches and then grafting one or two types of Christmas/Easter/thanksgiving cactus to the top – This may be a silly looking option, but it’s also a 100% serious suggestion!
My happiest easter cacti are the ones on peres are

Skylight, definitely go Skylight👍…or a second story addition. Thought this would be your cheapest option🤷‍♂️

Edit.. going through the floor would be cheaper, and may not need a permit!🤙

  9. Rikstafari

Start looping it arround that closet hanger

  10. Filthy76

Cut off about a foot of it from the top and propagate it.

  11. cacgotmytongue

Build a lil support basket, slap a TBM impale on the tip, and let a bunch of pups grow toward the ground like an upside down tomato plant planter

  12. Plantiacaholic

Climb to the top and look for green giants?

  13. Joshuahealingtree

Chop it into 2 in sections and line a 50 cell tray with them. Once they all root and start growing you have graft city at your fingertips.

  14. ArtintheSingularity

Cut it into 6 inch sections, keeping track of which end is up. Repot the section with roots in a pot about 4x that size and center it. Stick the cuttings about 2″ into the soil around the rooted one. Pereskiopsis farm on the way.

Those clamps you use to keeps wires on the wall with a screw and make a danger moulding

  16. Orange_Ready

Put it in the corner and as it starts to grow higher you can controll the growth with large enough staples that don’t hurt the plant but hold it in place. From there you can create a winding maze of Pereskiopsis on you ceiling 🤙

How do you feel about a skylight? That boi tall as hell lmao

  18. Chance_Permission_76

Chop it – use as grafting stock 🙏

  19. neberious

Plant it in a strawberry topsy turvy pot and let it hand upsidedown.

  20. Glocktopus69420Obama

Train yourself to pull it out of your mouth like a clown

Start bending around a pole and make it spiral. Which would shorten it and also make it pretty cool once you remove the pole down the line. You would have to tie it to the pole here and there to make it stay. That’s what I would do atleast. Train it to grow how you want kinda like a bonsai tree.

  22. yakiddenme1

See how many random bits of it you can graft together to work on your grafting skills

  23. jaydiza203

Can you try redirecting it down a bit more?

  24. santafemikez

If it grows any taller, you might get to meet the giant
