Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. G'day Everyone, yes, this is a long video, but I thought you might like a good old relaxing long walk around the garden with me… Cheers 🙂

  2. so i am in adelaide… so what do I do with my rashberry plants that came up last year…. do I just leave them and hope that I just get more this year?, or do i cut them back and see what happens… last year I only got about 8 rashberries…help

  3. I agree with you on the fact that your garden doesn't have to look pretty to grow great food. I don't care what others think about how my garden looks. I'm feeding my family fresh food. Thanks for the tour Mark.

  4. Brilliant! Love watching your videos, have learnt a lot from you. Live in the Little Karoo in South Africa very hot and very dry climate but we keep trying. Thank you

  5. Greetings from the Sunshine Coast. Thanks for another super interesting video, Mark. After seeing this video I now know that it is not too late to plant my sprouting potatoes, and an asparagus tuber start. It is warming up too fast this year. Hard to believe that it is still winter.

  6. Potato from clippings… I don't know if that will work, but I can tell you that sprouts off a tuber can and do produce a crop. Just like sweet potato slips, pop them off when you see a roots forming, pop them into water for a few days, or a seedling pot and soil, and they will develop into hardy transplants. It is how I grew 15# blue potatoes and 20# of yukons out of 2 tubers each from last year. I got enough rooted sprouts to plant a 15 ft row of each. 😊

  7. What a delightful tour of a beautiful garden as I sip my morning coffee and plan next years garden. I loved your "plant nursery" I have to transplant mine to their permanent locations. It has been too hot and dry to put them in.
