Can anyone tell me what’s going on with my booby cactus?

The brown spots are definitely getting worse. I have it right underneath a sansi grow light, so while it gets pretty strong direct light I will admit I water very sparingly, probably no where near enough. Could this be from the infrequent watering? The spots aren’t mushy—they’re actually quite hard, but it almost looks like a film on the “skin” of the cactus that I can’t scratch off, which you can see if you zoom in.

Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic!

It looks like you may be asking about a cactus or succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/cactus r/succulents for more specialized care advice.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.
