Edible Purslane vs Toxic Spurge: Know the Difference

Edible Purslane vs Toxic Spurge: Know the Difference

We have found that Purslane is a prolific edible plant that grows commonly in our garden. However, a look-a-like plant will often find its way into our garden as well, and that non-edible plant is called spurge.

In this youtube shorts video, we talk about some of the key differences of purslane vs spurge, and what to be on the lookout for so you don’t accidentally end up eating something that will make you sick.

We also have a full-length video out purslane and some of its benefits.

  1. Purslane has the highest level of alpha-omega 3 of any plant. It is found worldwide.

  2. These purslane are all over my yard. Checked to make sure they aren't spurge.
    Good to know!

  3. Doesn't spurge refer to an entire genus? Do you know what species this one is? Also the sap/latex is also an irritant, might've been worth warning people against touching it like you did, you can get a nasty reaction. Maybe this species is less irritating than others though, I'm not sure.

  4. I can't believe I had the edible one growing in my garden and being a weed, I pulled it all out. Not long after I heard it was edible. Haven't seen any since
