First Windrow Composting Effort

My first ever large batch compost is heating up nicely. I have over 200 yards of steer manure mixed with hay and straw heating up in a 100’ long windrow. I finally got complete moisture saturation yesterday, and I’m happy to report that I’m seeing temperatures over 120 degrees already. My plan is to turn it every day for the first week, and then every few days after as needed. Then I’m going to let it cure this winter in a static aerated pile that has been tarped. My hope is that the tarp will help retain the heat and keep out unwanted weed seeds. Thoughts?
