A Summer Garden Harvest | My Preservation Plans

In today’s video, I take you along for a quick garden harvest after returning from vacation. With the help of our wonderful farm sitter, I didn’t come back to an overwhelming amount of work, which was a blessing. I share what we brought in, including a big haul of green beans, my very first red noodle beans, and plenty of zucchini. I’ll be preserving most of these by canning, shredding, or freezing them for use in recipes throughout the year. I also finally harvested some red cabbage, which I’ll be pickling, along with some bell peppers, poblanos, and cucumbers. As we move into the busy season of food preservation, I’m curious to hear from you — what kind of canning or garden-related content would you like to see? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll do my best to share what you’re interested in. Thanks for watching, and happy growing, harvesting, and preserving!

  1. Doing my spag sauce on Monday. use your recipe. have pears to can, waiting on my pear tree and canning plums, the itianian ones.

  2. I'd say just make the videos. I would watch them because they remind me of something that I wanted to make or give me a new idea. I might have seen the video before but I might not be thinking about it or I might not have seen it. Or I might not even know what the thing to look up cuz I don't know it exists…..

  3. An idea for your poblano peppers. You can roast them to get the skins to blister and rub off the skins. Make a small split and fill with a cheese filling to make chili relleno's. Love your channel!

  4. I totally relate to the freezer full of tomatoes. Next week they will become soup and BBQ sauce. Thanks for sharing!!!!

  5. I am interested in how you preserve cabbage steaks! Cabbage is a regular I grow in my cool climate garden. I make kimchi and sauerkraut as well as sautéing the cabbage, but I’ve never frozen cabbage “steaks”. I agree with another’s comment it’s nice to “visit” with you on your channel. 😇👩🏻‍🌾

  6. I’ve seen all of your videos. I’ve even gone back to watch all from the beginning. It doesn’t matter if you’re recanning stuff you’ve done b4. I like seeing it in a different way. What I really want to see you do again is pizza sauce.

  7. The canning videos are my favorite, even if it’s a repeat. A new cucumber pickle video would be great, I’ve really been struggling to find a good basic crunchy dill pickle recipe that I love. I have used your brine a ton on all kinds of things and I have a lot of sweet or spicy pickles I love, but my dill pickles are pretty mediocre 🤪 my special needs kiddos will only eat certain things so I’m always trying to can things for picky eaters ❤

  8. I would happily watch you can the same things again! Or maybe a compilation video of what you’ve been canning if you wanted a slightly different video? I just enjoy watching you both 😊 Have a good weekend!

  9. I just want to add that I like watching to see what you’re preserving even if it’s the basics you’ve done before. It helps to see what I should be doing at this time as well.

  10. I never get tired of seeing how you can things, if it's a repeat canning episode, I am perfectly fine with that. One of my very favorite ones is, the spaghetti sauce with all different veggies and tomatoes, in it.

  11. I would like to see your pantry planning process or lists. I flip through the canning books to look at the options and then make a prioritized list of what to do first with each crop. New ideas are welcome! Bruchetta was new for me last year, and WOW! Cook chicken bites, pour bruchetta on top, sprinkle with motz and broil. Serve over zucchini or noodles… Mmmmmmmm!

  12. GOOD EVENING RACHEL HAPPY SUNDAY HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD HOLIDAY GREAT TO HAVE A SITTER WHEN YOU ARE AWAY HAVE WONDERFUL HARVEST

  13. I just love seeing the harvest and preserving! Happy to hang out while you share what the garden brought this year! Hope you show the spaghetti sauce-a-paloosa, that's one of my favorites! 🤗🍅🍅

  14. Maybe u could do a video with ur daughter in law and show her how to can the cabbage. I love just watching u can and sharing ur experience.

  15. Do you use or preserve the cabbage leaves ( not the heads but the leaves around it?) And would love to know how the noodle beans taste. I have some seeds and may plant them next year.

  16. I pickled my cabbage but didn’t consider freezing slices. Do you need to do anything special to the cabbage before freezing or just slice and freeze?

  17. CHOCOLATE ORANGE ZUCCHINI CAKE  Favorite Recipes of the Sutton Families & Friends

    Ingredients:

    2 1/2 cups flour (unsifted)

    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

    1/2 cup cocoa

    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder

    1 tsp. salt

    1 tsp. cinnamon

    3/4 cup soft butter

    2 cups sugar

    3 eggs

    2 tsp. vanilla

    2 tsp. grated orange rind

    2 cups coarsely shredded zucchini

    1/2 cup milk

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Recipe instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, cocoa, baking, powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside. With mixer beat together the butter and sugar until they are smoothly blended. Add the eggs; one at a time, beating well after each addition. With a spoon, stir in the vanilla, orange peel, and zucchini. Alternately stir dry ingredients and the milk into zucchini mixture, including the nuts as a last addition. Pour into a greased & floured 10 inch tube pan or Bundt pan. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Turn out on wire rack to cool thoroughly. Drizzle glaze over top. Cut into thin slices to serve. GLAZE: Mix together 2 cups powdered sugar, 3 Tbsp. milk and 1 tsp. vanilla; beat until smooth.  I like to replace a tablespoon of the milk with 1 Tbsp. orange juice.

  18. Hi Rachel! Maybe some what's for dinner videos and using your preserved foods recipes. Or meals in a jar? Blessings Kiddo! 🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕

  19. I would love to make black beans in chili sauce. We use them in so many things and it would make a positive impact on our grocery budget to learn a good canning recipe for them.

  20. Hey Rachel, I know you’ve already done heaps and heaps of canning videos. I often go back and watch them to remember how something was canned. But, as a regular viewer for a couple of years now, I honestly love watching you in the kitchen and garden. It doesn’t matter if you repeat stuff. I think it’s maybe because I’ve always loved to just chat with loved ones in the kitchen. I know that me personally, would never get sick of you repeating stuff. I just wanna hang out with you, even if I am on the other side of the world. What’s even more awesome for me, is we are about to come into Spring. So, watching my favs on YouTube, it gets me all excited for the upcoming seasons. Sending love and hugs 💕 Bel xox

  21. I just enjoy watching you do life around your homestead. Please keep doing canning videos just because it’s a new year a new harvest and we like to watch it .

  22. How about just hanging out while you do canning? You can kind of chat about whatever instead of describing what you are doing in great detail
