What kind of arborvitae trees are these and will they last here planted directly next to so much pavement?

for a couple years as long as it doesnt freeze too hard. having enough water in the heat will make it hard on them too

Do we think they recently planted these 20 + foot tall arborvitaes. Are have they been there and have survived for several years already???

Lol they weren’t planted yesterday. They were probably panted 20 years ago at least probably as a privacy screen concession to making that shitty parking lot. Any ideal world they would have left a little more room of green but they didn’t. But they thrive. You didn’t bother to say what you are which is always nice but this is Reddit and the lack of information seems to grow every year

If you want information you have to give more. It’s probably a temperate climate It probably get enough water and they seem to be doing well .. There are many other factors might contribute to a less healthy environment but you didn’t bother to mention the location so can’t help

Well, they’ve been there since at least 2012 ! (Thanks google maps history) so probably will survive. Can’t say about the concrete however.

Thank you to anyone who took the time to comment and share thoughts! I really appreciate you. Sorry for not providing much info on post. I am new to posting and landscaping so apologize for lack of info context and if I have violated any norms. I’ll learn and do better!

I am new to landscaping and am enjoying learning more about arborvitae. A lot of what I find online is marketing/ad copy language. I was pleasantly surprised to see these tall gorgeous trees in my neighborhood in metro Detroit. Zone 6(?). The trees are planted on east side of the white fence. I really like them! I have a spot on mind on my property for some arborvitae and love the look and growth rate of American Pillar and Green Giant. The space I have is only 9 feet from sourth side of my house to privacy fence with neighbor. The neighbor’s side of fence is a 1 ft. Retaining wall and then a paved driveway. I did not think trees this tall and lush would grow in that section of my property because I would want to plant them at least 6 feet on center from my house and that leaves only 3 feet on center from the privacy fence which is also the end of the grade/retaining wall which then goes to the paved driveway. Then I saw these trees in my area and thought awesome! This is what I want. Was hoping Reddit might have more insight than I can glean from the merchant websites selling the trees.

Thanks again to anyone who took the time to read this and another thank you if you comment with some thoughts!
