What's this plant

This appeared in my garden last year

None of my neighbours have anything like this so are unable to help.
It died off last year and grew back (roughly 1 metre tall) in spring, despite digging up the soil and planting new flowers.

Native to a lot of the US. self-seeds easily. Bees love it!

Yes borage, bees love it and you can eat the flowers!

Lovely borage! Attracts good pollinators and those wasps that prey on hornworms. Edible! The flowers are beautiful in a lemonade, and taste a bit like cucumbers.

This is one of my favorite flowers. I love blue in the garden.
It’s edible and tastes like cucumber (I’ve read) but I can report that my dog loves to swipe a leaf on the way by.

Thank you everyone! It looks like I’ll be letting it grow then

Borage or comfrey, I always have trouble telling them apart.

The flowers are tasty, but the hairs are a bit prickly.

The leaves are edible too, and both have been used for medicinal poultices.
