What's this plant

What’s ony yard… I thought it was going to become golden rod but it’s not flowering.

I have this "meadow area" I the yard which I do not mow at all. I just watch life happen and let nature do ota thing!

Now I'm learning to ID all the things growing here. This on particular looked like golden rod in it's growth and I was excited. It never flowered when golden rod would and it's shape changed a bit.

And id's?

Looks like asters of some kind. Keep waiting

It’s a not that great aster variety. In my nicer beds, I pull it because it gets so tall before any blooms. In the back of the wilder one, I let it stay.

The cone is often referred to as the state flower of several midwestern states as it blooms across interstates and highways in long rows. Sometimes for more than a year at a time.

But that’s it. As is, that’s the bloom. It won’t get any prettier unfortunately.

I dug up some “goldenrod” that was set to get mowed over earlier this summer. It is now over 6 feet tall and covered in pretty purple flowers – looks like you’ve got aster!

I’m not great at my white aster identification, but I’d say this is a Symphyotrichum spp. Maybe *Symphyotrichum ericoides.* Great pollinator species that blooms very late in the summer.

It’s an aster. It’ll bloom a big flurry of white or light purple flowers
