Lawn Care

How far do I have to dig these rocks out to have a solid foundation for grass?

I'm in the process of overseeding, and last year our neighbor was nice enough to landscape our property next to her driveway. I was ok with it until she stopped taking care of it. I've now got a survey done so I know where the lines are. I just want to know how deep I have to go so grass can get a good foundation. I know I could probably force her to do it, but I still have to live next to her.

You’re going to want to dig out all the gravel. The soil will be hot enough next to the asphalt. No need to make it worse by leaving gravel there.

Ideally 6″ or so, but grass will always struggle next to that blacktop during the summer anyway.

Someone should’ve told driveway owner to run the gutter to a drain under the driveway before sealing that asphalt. That gutter drain is making that driveway useless.

Not much, but between the asphalt and gravel absorbing heat, it’ll always roast the grass a bit anyway. Go as deep as you are willing.

Had this issue and lots of winter salt. Put down a 1′ strip of heavy landscape fabric and 1.5″ rock and landscape edging on both sides of the driveway. Looks good and stops the dead spots.
