MORE ABOUT ME

I’m Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you’ve got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you’ve always wanted to do, everything is “figureoutable.”

I became “Anne of All Trades” out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break and build the things I need.

12 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool.

My goal is to learn and share traditional techniques and skills while showing my peers how to get from where they are to where they want to go, how to do the things they are passionate about, and what can be done TODAY to engage their own community and grow deep roots.

Whether it’s carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support – whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

  1. Thanks, Anne! This was a great video. One pedantic nitpick I want to make: around 13:30, you said that plants in the Brassica family aren't root crops. There are two reasons this isn't universal. The first is that there isn't a Brassica family! (Laugh.) There's a Brassiceae family and a Brassica genus, though. The second is that there are root crops in those places!

The Brassiceae plant family includes Brassica oleracea (kale, cabbage, broccoli, etc.), but it also includes root crops like radishes and maca.

Meanwhile, the Brassica plant genus, which is within the Brassiceae family, includes not only Brassica oleracea, but also Brassica rapa (broccoli raab, turnip, etc.) and Brassica napus (canola, rutabaga, etc.).

I know, I know, I'm being pedantic. But still — if someone's growing turnips or rutabagas, which are in the Brassica genus, they may want to fertilize them in a way that's optimal for root crops, just like when they plant carrots. 😉

  2. Cutting that black fabric cause strings. Many, many strings constantly pulling out and connecting to things. Cutting is what I did. 😑

  3. Invest in solid brass quick couplings. You’ll be surprised how much better they are, especially after a year.

  4. I would love a video where you share your seed stash and saved seed and talk about what varieties have worked for you in lazy gardening.

  5. I planted 2 broccolini plants in early June. I have been harvesting the very delicious and tender florets since mid July.

  6. Our climates are the opposite: here, in Northern Italy, it rains often in fall and spring and quite nothing in Summer and Winter (so no snow at all).

  7. I love watching your channel. I am in Arkansas 7b. I have learned so much from you!! Enjoy knowing you don't have to keep your garden so cleaned out. I have a very small yard but want everything you have. Lol no not happening.

  8. Your seed organization puts mine to shame! My myriad of seed packets, new and opened, are piled up hodge-podge on the top shelf of a spare refrigerator I have. 😁 Your way is MUCH better!!

  9. She mentions that she's the daughter of the cheapest man alive a lot. I wonder if she was pulled out a lost-and-found or something…

  10. My mom plants pumpkin seeds in cardboard ice cream containers and plants the cardboard outside at a temperature appropriate time.

  11. Anne, holler, if i can help advise about heat detection, breeding efficiencies, or other questions for your bovines. I have been around hundreds of cattle for over 50 years. From 2005 to 2022, we milked 800 head at our family's dairy farm. I did vet tech tasks and managed the milking crew. Have a blessed day!

  12. healthy soil makes healthy plants, health plants makes healthy fruits, healthy fruits make healthy people. keep up the good work.

  13. "If this english makes any sense"😂. This english is perfect for a german like me and i understand it the best 😅. Greetings from Nadine from Berlin Germany

  14. Can you please share where your overalls are from for all us new folk here?! Do you paint them yourself – its the only answer I'm coming up with

  15. Hehe – LOVE your vids – and 'ethic' 😉 Being a 'lazy' Gardener is the most natural way … I watch our neighbour (new Mexico) weed whacking down to the earth, while I'm here watering ours & cut/dropping to create some soil 😉

Totally agree re chard – but our ducks/chickens like it and it grows through the winter sometimes here, so bonus 😉 & didn't know re the garlic – explains A LOT lol – got 2nd year growing here… left them to do their thing though 😉

Very Grateful for your vids though…. 3rd year 'food forest'…. we got time 😉

  16. I laughed so hard at your first try at burning the holes in the weed barrier. Thanks for including that and not producing a “perfect” video.

  17. What brand is that bulk seed bag and where did you find it because I can't read the name on it and I've tried lol

  18. I feel exactly as you do about Swiss chard. It looks pretty, but I'd much rather plant a collard, mustard, turnip, beet, lettuce, or some other green.

  19. Hi Anne. You mentioned storing seeds in the fridge, but also using the fridge to kickstart the germination process? How does it work between these two very different outcomes? I would love a video specifically on seed storage and management.

  20. Anne, you are so cute and have such a precious personality!! When you said "there are no mistakes in gardening, only learning opportunities!!" And then stopped to question why you didn't learn the first 30 times, I felt so seen and not alone 🤣 I am notorious for not really learning from my mistakes!! But listen, I recently heard someone say "repeating something over and over and expecting a different result is not the definition of insanity. It's the definition of PRACTICE." I loved that so much!! Hope you do too!

  21. Look out Michelle Obama, Anne is here for the award of best damn arms and shoulders! 🫰🫰💜💜 😄

  22. 22:07 could you please clarify “quick overnight sprinkle “. Mine puts out about 1/4” of water per hour so overnight seems like a lot. How much ‘rain equivalent’ are you shooting for? Thanks!

  23. You are a joy! I am a geriatric gma and want to grow a few veggies 😅. You make it seem so attainable! Thanks!
