RIP corms

TL;DR I accidentally trashed my Silver Dragon corms and need to know how long they take to make new ones 🫠

I have a sad (not really but sad to me bc I’m dramatic) story to share. It’s an unnecessarily long story because of who I am as a person.

ANYWAY – so I have been sick with Covid since last Friday. Currently, I feel the worst I have ever felt compared to all the other times I’ve had it. Laid in bed all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Totally not like me. I usually just power through any sickness, but this one is a doozy. Tuesday I had to work (owning your own businesses is tough work) even though I wanted to lay in bed. I decided that if I could do that, I could repot my lovely Silver Dragon I wanted to repot over the weekend. So I did. I was SO excited because she had two plump and firm corms! I have been waiting patiently for her to get some age and fully acclimate so I could forage for the babies before disturbing the roots and accidentally ☠️ her.

So I found her at a big box store locally and almost had a heart attack. Of course I had to buy her and walk through pouring rain (with a smile on my face). First two photos show the main variegated leaf and the second new leaf I believe is variegated. Third is the overall plant when I first brought her in. Fourth is just a random day of her sunbathing and showing her beautiful colors in the sunlight 😍 the fifth was earlier today. Since I’m ADHD, let me get back to the story because y’all have stopped reading by now anyway… so why am I typing lol.

The sad part. Back to Covid and repotting – I found TWO babies. TWO! I was thrilled. But then of course I got carried away. I had so many plant chores I planned to do this past weekend, I decided to do a little extra repotting while my hands were dirty. Get through a bunch of plants, etc, go to clean up…. Without a second thought I scraped all of the remaining loose soil together and dumped it on top of a few of the repots. Took the rest of the soil leftovers that were on my mat and shook it off in the yard. You can probably see where this is going.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR TWO AND A HALF MONTHS TO REPOT HER. Where did the corms go? Who knows. I’m hoping they eventually pop up in another pot like, “surprise you dummy!” But… I have a feeling they are in the trash or in the yard and I’ll never find any signs of them again.

How long before they produce more corms 😭 I was hoping for more than two anyway because one of my others had like twelve! My luck, the variegation is only the couple leaves and I won’t get any others… but I want to at least try! I think I see some various other spots on the other leaves. All in all… at least she’s still healthy 🤗
