You have grubs my friend. I have same issue. Those holes were made by skunks or racoons digging up the tasty larva.
Not sure you’re location but here in Canada im spraying nematodes to get rid of them.

Bio advanced makes a 24 hour grub killer, might want to pickup a couple bags. I never believe a single application kills them all, which is why I say get 2 bags, apply a few weeks apart.
