African Violets

Violets are way tougher than I expected- a summer outdoors without water

I put these two African violets outdoors in the full shade in Atlanta, Georgia. If it doesn’t rain for more than a few weeks, I’ll give them a bit of supplemental water, but I know for a fact that they’ve spent over a week bone dry, in 95+ degree temperatures. Seem to be doing just fine!

I initially put these outside because I believed they had mites, but in retrospect, I think it was just urea and their fertilizer.

First pic is the two plants, second pic is the location.

I’ll probably let them die from frost unfortunately, as I don’t think it’s wise to bring outdoor plants into my indoor growth area. Still, an interesting experiment. They’re tough!

Doing same experiment with my extra violet. Its been 3 months now when I planted it outdoors. Water a couple of times. Never rain here in summer Zone 10A. Sunlight move in different direction and got sunburn. Its not dead but doing poorly having a week of 100- 111°F🥵.
