Are these roots growing out the ground?


Found in a state park, looks like water either used to be here or comes and goes from time to time. looked really cool tho and i just assumed it belonged here

    Looks like cypress knees. In areas with high water tables (like swamps) you’ll see these pop up in cypress groves. They are extensions of the roots that come up to help with air transfer for the tree

    Edit: apparently this is not confirmed knowledge, just a leading hypothesis. May also have to do with erosion control around the tree

    What’s cool about these is you can take a twig/branch clipping, drill a hole into the knee, put the clipping in, seal it up and it will grow a new tree

    Bald cypress are pretty cool
