It’s most likely be dormant – depending where you are and your season, if it doesn’t come back during milder weather then yes, it’s probably dead. If you didn’t water at all during the summer (deeply 1x a month) you may see some dead spots But more likely it’s dormant and just needs some time to rebound. I do see some areas with a little green, those could be a more heat tolerant crop grass though. If you see any signs of green in the rest of the grass (like 1 blade sprinkled here and there) then you should be good. You can encourage it to come back by watering more as well. It’s also less likely that it’s any fungus since you said it’s been hot.
