Hi, I dont know what this tree is but it's gotten huge and I need to cut it down by about half. Thing is I don't want to make it all ugly with old branch stumps which I've encountered on other trees I cut. How should this be reduced?
You can cut branches to around 40-50cm from the main trunk, ideally to an outward facing node. Normally with ornamental cherry trees it’s best to wait until late winter / early spring.
