Bonsai

Made a big mistake

This is my first bonsai a dwarf juniper that I picked up from a local garden center a month ago and didn't trim it up until 2 weeks ago. My first mistake was having my mom next to me talking to me asking questions because she's been wanting to get into it. While I was telling her what I planned to cut and why, when I went for my first cut she just had to say "are you sure that's the one you wanna cut" me and my second guessing self moved from the under branch to the top branch(the one I wanted to keep to thicken it up at the major bend in the first photo). I should have stopped and thought about what next but I just started to cut not thinking about it, now I don't know where to go with it except to let it grow out and see where we can go from there.

No worries and no mistake, just taking a different direction. Personally, I’d continue to let it grow in the pot. Referring to 2nd pic, at some point removing the branch to the left and focus on a windswept design with the leader on the right. Not that my suggestion is correct, let the tree grow and tell you the next steps.

It’s still alive. You’ve got opportunities. I’m lamenting the passing of a mugo pine right now.

    Good luck!
