Plant Propagation

Sweet Potato Vine

Hello! I’m new to propagating. I’ve been trying to propagate the sweet potato vine and water for eight days. I’ve been changing out the water every couple of days. It started to root, however, it looks like one of the new roots is dying. I included a picture of where I originally cut the vine and it appears to be rotting. It’s a little brown.

Questions:
Should I cut this new route off?

Does anybody know why this new root would be dying?

How long do the new roots need to be before I put it in soil?

Should I cut off the part on the stem where it’s browning?

    I’m not an expert but:

The “cut” looks like a tear to me.

Did you let it callous or go straight to water? I know some can handle straight to water, others need to callous.

Root length: from the far I’ve found, I think most people say about 2 inches
