Houseplants Circle Jerk

Don’t they know these RARE houseplants come from THAILAND!??

I think I found a new way to torture my bad houseplants.

But for real… $400….

What do you mean I can’t bring in random flora into the country???

A lot of “rare” (popular) houseplants are cultivated in bulk in places like Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia and are generally sold for cheaper prices, so this doesn’t really come as a surprise

$400? Not what I’d pay for those, but plant import shipments can easily go into the thousands or tens of thousands. I’ve spent far too much on expensive things here domestically, so it’s understandable that a buyer might want to try to save some money through importing (but that of course comes with its own risks and dangers)

I do hear of errors being caused by the local domestic plant inspection branch (i.e. shipments being delayed at the inspection hub for weeks on end), but in this particular case, I’d say it’s likely the Thai supplier not following all the proper instructions (perhaps documentation and phytosanitary, amongst other things) for properly importing the plant. A trustworthy and knowledgeable seller and an equally knowledgable buyer is extremely important in an overseas transaction like this!
