The plant gets energy through photosynthesis and if it doesn’t get enough, it can’t have perky leaves. Insufficient light exposure also causes the plant to develop smaller leaves. The ideal location for this is a sunny window. Be sure to slowly introduce direct sun so that it doesn’t burn from sudden direct exposure.
