What’s wrong with my cactus

Any idea what I wrong with my cactus? It has this brown covering all over it that was not there when I got it. It recently got a new growth but I can see the brown starting to go on that as well.

I have it in its original growth pot so when I water it, it can drain. I water it maybe once a month and often that is a soak. It’s in our living area without any windows in the room but has indirect sunlight from the large opening (about 12 ft wide) to the next room which is essentially all windows and three sky lights.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.
